Job summary

Affirm seeks a software engineer to help build backend systems and data-driven services. You will design, develop, and launch components that interact across distributed services using Python or Kotlin, in a remote-first environment.

You’ll collaborate with product, design, and analytics, participate in code reviews, and contribute to on-call operations. Affirm offers flexible time off, equity, and health coverage for you and your family.

Qualifications

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems using Python or Kotlin.
• Familiar with distributed systems and AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes.
• Strong ownership, code quality, and collaboration across teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Break down large projects into tasks and deliver in phases.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics on lifecycle decisions.
• Support operations by creating metrics and on-call involvement.
• Contribute to team growth through interview participation.
