Job summary

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Datastore team to design and scale backend data infrastructure, including PostgreSQL models, Kafka pipelines, and a GraphQL API. You will own data and event processing services, deliver dataset snapshots to our warehouse, and collaborate across teams to enable new workflows in our clinical studies and digital health products.

You should write SQL by hand and reason about schema design, indexes, and query behavior as a core skill.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with data platforms and infrastructure
• Strong proficiency in SQL with PostgreSQL and hands-on query tuning
• Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing (Kafka or equivalents)
• Proficiency in Julia or Python; willingness to learn Julia is a plus
• Experience deploying services in containerized environments (Kubernetes) and IaC tools (Terraform/Helm)
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplines
• Excellent written and verbal communication, especially in asynchronous/remote contexts
• Self-directed, thrive in hybrid or remote teams

Responsibilities

• Lead design and integration of new services for data and event processing
• Own pipelines delivering dataset snapshots into the data warehouse
• Collaborate with platform and application teams to implement APIs
• Write SQL by hand and reason about schema design, indexes, and query behavior
• Draft RFCs and guide complex feature discovery and technical design phases
• Ensure data integrity, idempotency, and robust operation across systems
