Job summary

Dartmouth College’s Outing Club seeks a College Trail Crew Member to maintain and improve the 75-mile trail network, including Appalachian Trail segments from Hanover to Mount Moosilauke. The role involves camping on DOC trails while reconstructing trail sections and learning stonework, waterbars, and erosion control.

Training will cover CPR/First Aid, risk management, and Leave No Trace; candidates should be able to hike long distances in mountain terrain, live with peers, and work in all

Qualifications

• One season of trail work experience or equivalent.
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions for extended periods.
• Backcountry backpacking, camping and cooking experience.
• Good health and physical fitness and ability to hike long distances in mountain terrain.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to live and work with others.
• Ability to maintain a safe work environment under challenging conditions.
• Ability to document tasks completed and report out.
• First aid and CPR or willingness to be certified.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the DOC trail network, including the Appalachian Trail segments.
• Reconstruct trail sections, build stone steps, water bars, and erosion control structures.
• Work with a small crew and camping in field locations.
• Receive training in CPR/First-aid, risk management, and Leave No Trace.
