Job summary

Shipcom is seeking an analytical, results-driven Back-end Developer to design, build and enhance our IoT back-end applications. You will analyze code bases, implement efficient processes and create reliable API layers for users.

You will drive end-to-end features, improve reliability and performance, and collaborate with engineers to scale the platform from our Houston HQ. This role offers visibility across teams and a chance to shape product success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years of enterprise software development experience.
• Proven experience building high-performance, scalable systems.
• Strong proficiency with run-time environments such as Node.js and ASP.NET.
• Proficiency with server-side languages such as .NET, C#, Python and PHP.
• Working knowledge of IoT strategy, standards, protocols.
• Experience with SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB.
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (AngularJS, React).
• Experience deploying software on Azure and AWS.
• Knowledge of CI/CD and code versioning tools.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodology.

Shipcom is looking for an analytical, results-driven Back-end Developer who will work with team members to design, build and improve back-end applications for our line-up of IoT solutions. This seasoned individual will use his or her understanding of programming languages and tools to analyze current code bases and industry developments, formulate efficient processes, solve problems, and create a more seamless experience for users.

As a back-end developer, you will continually improve the reliability, performance, observability, and efficiency of the business logic and API layers that power Shipcom’s IoT platform. You must have knowledge in all stages of software development and will be working alongside other engineers and developers to collaborate on the various layers of the application infrastructure. Given Shipcom’s progress in the IoT division, we expect you to grow quickly; as a technical leader on the team, you will drive the design and development of end-to-end features that are core to the product experience.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Architect, design and develop software and tools for managing complex business workflows
• Defining and developing APIs and integration strategy of the product with other 3rd party applications and platforms
• Identify architectural risks and plans to mitigate
• Collaborating with the front-end developers, DBAs and other team members to establish objectives and design more functional, cohesive codes to enhance the user experience
• Designing, developing and integrating with web APIs
• Compiling and analyzing data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize performance
• Ensuring cross-platform optimization for web and mobile devices
• Understanding and implementation of security and data protection
• Staying abreast of developments in web applications and programming languages
• Possess ability to stick to timelines and measure progress during development

• Familiarity with front end languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Experience with deploying software on cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
• Knowledge of code versioning tools and CI/CD
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodology is required
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with an ability to multitask across teams, projects, and priorities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
