Job summary

Murfreesboro City Schools is seeking a Special Education B.E.S.T. teacher in the Special Education Department. You will provide instructional, social/emotional, behavioral support to eligible students with disabilities under the supervision of the Supervisor of Special Education.

Qualifications

• Must meet health, physical and background check requirements
• Holds Tennessee teaching license with endorsement in #460, #461, or #105
• Experience working with students with disabilities; knowledge of regulations

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional, social-emotional, behavioral support and/or consultative services to eligible students with disabilities, as specified in each student's IEP.
• Attend IEP-Team meetings to assist in determining eligibility for special education services and/or in developing IEPs and making program and placement decisions.
• Consult with and advise individual general education classroom teachers serving students with disabilities on matters pertaining to the special needs of these students.
• Collaborate with the Behavior Interventionist, school counselor, social worker, and other support staff on strategies to support positive behavior and social development.
• Conduct required student assessments to assist in determining eligibility for special education services and to aid in placement decisions.
• Administer data gathering assessments and lead discussions with staff, parents, or IEP team members regarding data explanations.
• Develop and maintain student IEPs, Behavior Intervention Plans, and related paperwork in a timely manner.
• Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the classroom.
• Plan curriculum and lessons considering individual student needs, abilities, and learning styles.
• Maintain a disciplined classroom climate that welcomes students and encourages learning.
