Job summary

System One is seeking a Platform Engineer – VDI to design, implement, and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop environments onsite in Washington, DC. The contractor will lead design decisions, provisioning, and policies for secure, scalable VDI delivery.

The role emphasizes strong PowerShell automation, deep knowledge of AVD components, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet security and performance goals. Onsite work with a focus on reliability and cost optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
• 5+ years of experience with VDI technologies, cloud platforms, and desktop virtualization.
• Minimum 3 years focused on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or similar cloud VDI.
• Expertise in AVD including host pools, session hosts, app virtualization, and multi-session Windows.
• Proficiency with Azure services: AD, Networking, Storage, Monitoring.
• Strong PowerShell scripting for automation of VDI tasks.
• Familiarity with Intune and Group Policy in VDI environments.
• Knowledge of security best practices and VPN technologies.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Azure Monitor or Log Analytics.
• Excellent communication and ability to work across teams.
• Experience managing VDI projects from design to support.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to tailor VDI while meeting security policies.
• Ensure VDI performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness with Azure tools.
• Implement and maintain AVD offerings, including desktops and app hosting.
• Develop group policies and user profiles to meet standards.
• Deploy multi-session Windows desktops and host pools.
• Monitor health and performance, diagnose issues to ensure uptime.
• Utilize Azure Monitor and Log Analytics for insights.
• Use AAD for authentication with conditional access for VDI access.
• Provide tier 3 support for complex VDI issues and optimization.
• Develop automation for provisioning, patching, and profile management using PowerShell and Azure Automation.
