Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of software development experience with Java, J2EE, Spring, Hibernate, AWS and cloud modernization.
  • Experience building Java-based cloud-native applications and backend systems on AWS.
  • Exposure to ETL tools, Power BI, AWS QuickSight and data analytics is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

AWS / Java Developer

Client: State of North Carolina DHHS, IT Division (DHHS-ITD)
Position Type: Contract
Experience: 8 10 Years

DHHS-ITD is seeking an experienced AWS/Java Developer to support data modernization initiatives in collaboration with ITD and the Division of Public Health (DPH). The developer will design, develop, modernize, and maintain cloud-native applications and AWS solutions aligned with technical and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Modernize legacy applications by refactoring and migrating on-premise applications to AWS cloud environments.
  • Design, develop, and test Java-based cloud-native applications and backend systems.
  • Develop enterprise applications using Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.
  • Design and implement AWS solutions supporting enterprise-level Data Lakes.
  • Utilize appropriate AWS services within application and data architectures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and recommend application modernization strategies.
  • Work with transactional and relational database (RDBMS) technologies.
  • Develop, test, debug, and deliver scalable applications using engineering best practices.
  • Apply DevOps practices and automation tools to application development and deployment.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain clean, secure, efficient, and maintainable code.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud applications for performance, security, reliability, and cost.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and cloud-related technical issues.
  • Ensure adherence to architecture standards, security requirements, and development best practices.
  • Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and iterative software delivery.
  • Support ETL and data integration activities where required.
  • Experience with Power BI, AWS QuickSight, ETL tools, or data analytics is a plus.
Required Skills

8 10 years of software development experience with strong hands-on expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, AWS, cloud application modernization, legacy application migration, RDBMS/transactional databases, DevOps, automation, and Agile/Scrum.

Experience building solutions using AWS services and enterprise Data Lake architectures is highly desired. Exposure to ETL tools, Power BI, AWS QuickSight, and data analytics is an added advantage.
