Job summary

Phoenixoutcomes is seeking an AWS Infrastructure Engineer (Architect-Level) to lead the RHEL 7 to RHEL 8 migration for a federal client. This remote, architect-focused role emphasizes design of IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD automation rather than day-to-day hands-on work.

You will architect AWS accounts, VPCs, and secure GovCloud integrations, define reusable templates, and guide DevOps and Systems Engineers through a production-grade migration while complying with security standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience.
7 years total with an Associate’s Degree in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
9 years total with a High School Diploma in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience architecting AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code, with hands-on Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
Experience designing and automating CI/CD pipelines that deploy changes up through Production (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub/GitHub Actions).
Experience architecting AWS account structures, VPCs, and network connectivity.
Experience designing secure integration and interface patterns within a FedRAMP-authorized (GovCloud) environment.
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server infrastructure and migrations.
Experience incorporating vulnerability and cloud security posture management scanning (Nessus, Turbot).
Experience supporting DevSecOps practices and Agile delivery.
Ability to translate infrastructure and migration requirements into architecture-level designs and documentation.
Strong analytical and technical leadership skills; ability to lead discussions across teams.

Responsibilities

Architect the AWS IaC approach (Terraform, CloudFormation) for RHEL 8 servers across environments.
Design AWS account structure, VPCs, and networking for migration.
Define secure patterns for FedRAMP GovCloud integrations across tiers.
Own CI/CD automation architecture (Jenkins, GitHub) from infra to Production.
Create reusable IaC templates and standards for repeatable migrations.
Plan environment tier build-out and validation before promotion to next tier.
Provide technical direction to DevOps and Systems Engineers on automation and RHEL 8 config.
Support RDS instances as part of migration in coordination with DB Admin.
Coordinate Jenkins job migration and DNS cutover planning at architecture level.
Incorporate vulnerability scans (Nessus, Turbot) into architecture and design sessions.
Lead discovery and design sessions with stakeholders and ensure compliance with reference models.
Document decisions and runbooks in Confluence/Jira and align with migration timeline.
Maintain positive relationships with federal client and delivery teams.
