Job summary

Lumicity is seeking an AWS Cloud Operations Engineer / Systems Administrator to join a fast-paced team supporting core infrastructure for a top-tier AI company. This remote contract role focuses on reliability, lifecycle maintenance, and security hardening across large-scale AWS environments.

You’ll lead upgrades, manage end-of-life remediation, automate repetitive tasks, and monitor health using Datadog and CloudWatch to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of AWS administration experience across core services (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, EKS).
• Proven ability to manage large-scale patching and major version upgrades for OS and middleware.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS SSM, and Atlantis.
• Experience writing system management scripts (Bash, Python) to automate tasks.
• Experience with Datadog, CloudWatch, or similar observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Upgrade & Version Management: plan and execute software, runtime, and infra upgrades across AWS workloads.
• EOS/EOL Remediation: upgrade systems, OS, dependencies nearing end-of-life or end-of-support.
• Large-Scale Patching: lead patching programs with minimal downtime.
• Operational Automation: build self-healing and automation scripts; improve monitoring.
• Health & Performance Monitoring: use Datadog and CloudWatch to optimize stability.

About the Role

We are seeking an operations-focused AWS Cloud Ops / Systems Administrator to join a fast-paced engineering team supporting core infrastructure for a top-tier AI company.

In this role, you will lead infrastructure reliability, system lifecycle maintenance, and security hardening across large-scale AWS environments. You won't be building application-level features; instead, you'll be the backbone of platform stability, managing major version upgrades, eliminating technical debt, and automating repetitive operational workflows to minimize system downtime.

What You’ll Do

• Upgrade & Version Management: Own end-to-end planning and execution of software, runtime, and infrastructure upgrades across AWS workloads.
• EOL/EOS Remediation: Systematically identify and upgrade systems, operating systems, third‑party dependencies, and managed service engines (e.g., RDS, ElastiCache) approaching end-of-life or end-of-support.
• Large-Scale Patching: Manage major patching programs and OS/middleware updates with minimal to zero operational impact and downtime.
• Operational Automation: Build self‑healing mechanisms, functional automation scripts (Bash, Python), and monitoring improvements to eliminate manual toil.
• Health & Performance Monitoring: Track metrics using Datadog and CloudWatch to optimize system health and prevent performance bottlenecks.

Required Qualifications

• AWS Expertise: 3+ years of dedicated AWS administration experience across core services (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, EKS).
• Patching & Lifecycle Upgrades: Proven track record of managing large-scale patching initiatives and major version upgrades for OS and middleware.
• Infrastructure & Automation Tooling: Hands‑on proficiency with Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS SSM, and Atlantis.
• Scripting Skills: Practical experience writing system management scripts (Bash, Python, etc.) to automate operational tasks.
• Monitoring: Hands‑on experience using Datadog, AWS CloudWatch, or similar observability tools.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience managing multi-cloud environments (Azure or GCP).
