Job summary

Peraton is seeking a motivated AWS Cloud Engineer to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability of data-driven platforms across the organization. You will provide day-to-day customer application support, maintain infrastructure, monitor systems, and implement automation to improve operational efficiency.

You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver secure, scalable AWS solutions while following best practices.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required with ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Pre-employment credit check may be required per Customer.
• Bachelor's/ Master’s or HS diploma with corresponding experience levels.
• Deep knowledge of AWS architecture, networking (VPCs, routing), security (IAM/Resource Policies, encryption), serverless/microservices, and containerization (ECS, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency with Terraform IaC and advanced skills.
• Experience designing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines for enterprise delivery.
• Hands-on experience monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting SaaS logs.
• Strong scripting: Python and Bash; Ansible is a plus.
• Proficiency in configuration management, observability (CloudWatch, Grafana), reliability and DR; cloud engineering automation (Terraform, Python, GitLab CI) for AWS.
• Strong Git proficiency and branching strategies.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AWS cloud infrastructure using IaC (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI).
• Guide ADTs on cloud solution patterns, deployment strategies, and architecture decisions; influence design choices.
• Own automation end-to-end from IaC authorship to pipeline design to production operations.
• Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to observability/monitoring practices.
• Provide technical support and guidance to AWS and managed service users.
• Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, highly available AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Monitor AWS environments and troubleshoot incidents.
• Collaborate with development, security and infra teams to implement cloud solutions and follow AWS best practices.
• Maintain configuration docs, diagrams and SOPs for all environments.
• Perform backups, upgrades and maintenance during maintenance windows.
• Monitor for security vulnerabilities and perform ad-hoc upgrades as required.
• Support audit activities with logs, reports and configs.
• Manage AWS IAM roles, policies, permissions and access controls.

• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IAC), specifically utilizing advanced Terraform skills
• Proven experience designing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including reusable/shared components for enterprise-scale delivery
• Hands-on experience monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting SaaS application logs
• Strong scripting skills Python and Bash, Ansible experience is plus
• Proficient in configuration management, observability (CloudWatch, Grafana), reliability, and disaster recovery practices. Proficient in the design, development, build, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance cloud engineering processes using automation tooling (e.g.,Terraform, Python, GitLab CI) for AWS workloads
• Strong Git proficiency, including common branching/release strategies (GitFlow, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Runners, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation
• Experience with PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript/Node.js or other scripting languages to automate, troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and resolving high-priority incidents in large, multi-tenant environments.
• Exemplary communication, analytical skills, and technical knowledge across the client environment.

This person will provide day-to-day customer application support, maintain infrastructure, monitor systems, resolve incidents, while implementing automation to improve operational efficiency. They will also collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and other cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver secure, scalable solutions.

This role requires strong AWS DevOps expertise, application support experience, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to optimizing our analytics infrastructure.
