Qualifications

Job description

Job Description: Leader provides enterprise leadership and strategic direction for perioperative, surgical, and procedural care services across the organization. Operating in a highly matrixed and complex environment, this leader, under the direction of the Vice President of Surgical Services and in partnership with the Surgical Services (SS) Executive Leadership Team, drives the development and execution of system-wide strategic business plans, advances standardized workflow aligned with evidence-based practice, and ensures the delivery of high-reliability care. This role drives margin growth, optimizes operating room throughput, and ensures safe, high-quality patient care through robust education, workforce development, and recruitment strategies across the perioperative, surgical, and procedural continuum.

This role is preferably based within the Intermountain market areas (Utah - preferably in the Salt Lake area, ID, NV, MT or CO) to strengthen collaboration, visibility, and alignment with enterprise initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Strategic Planning: Leads the development and execution of enterprise-wide strategic initiatives to meet surgical services goals, aligning with the broader vision and goals of Intermountain Health.
  • Operational Excellence: Along with the SS VP, oversees daily operations in the operating rooms and endoscopy suites, including pre-op, intra-op, and post-op processes. Establish key indicators annually to support strong workflows. Responsible for ensuring sterile processing provides safe, efficient, and cost-effective turnover of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Financial Management: In partnership with the SS VP and Internal Process Controls Director, provides oversight of capital and operational budgets. Accountable for resource allocation, revenue cycle management, and cost-containment measures. Ensures surgical scheduling and billing processes operate efficiently and accurately to support financial stewardship and operational excellence.
  • Quality and Patient Safety: Cultivates an evidence-based foundation for clinical practices and patient safety initiatives. Ensures all SS departments comply with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements. Partners with Patient Excellence to evaluate and implement best practices.
  • Staff Engagement: Provides oversight of the Surgical Services training, orientation, and education programs to ensure standardized practice and continuous professional development. Maximizes talent acquisition and retention for surgical services caregivers through strategic workforce planning, monitoring caregiver turnover and vacancies, and maintaining workforce readiness through ongoing education and development initiatives.
  • Provider Partnership: Partners with medical directors, surgeons, proceduralists, and anesthesiologists to foster clinical alignment and strong physician engagement. Supports the leadership development of local teams to strengthen provider partnerships and advance operational, clinical, and strategic objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience navigating the complexities of an integrated health system.
  • Experience with Sterile Processing through direct leadership or oversight of teams and operations.
Physical Requirements

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs. Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
