Leader provides strategic direction and operational oversight, including fiscal stewardship, regulatory compliance, policies and practice implementation, professional development in partnership with nursing, patient safety, quality standards, and overall leadership for Surgical Services departments across multiple designated facilities assigned to this leader. Site directors or managers across assigned facilities report directly to this leader. This role will collaborate with enterprise, regional, and local leaders by providing plans to develop, oversee, coordinate, and evaluate all aspects of patient care within Surgical Services. Leader will partner with nursing, clinical programs, service lines, and other disciplines to advance Surgical Services initiatives and strategic projects.

Leader will partner with nursing, clinical programs, service lines, and other disciplines to advance Surgical Services initiatives and strategic projects.

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Surgical Services. This leader will support the Canyons North geography and is subject to adjustments as needed.

This role is preferably based within the Intermountain market areas (Utah – preferably in the Salt Lake area, ID, NV, MT or CO) to strengthen collaboration, visibility, and alignment with enterprise initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Day-to-day Operations: Provides oversight of operations, huddles, and services across multiple designated facilities as assigned. Performs regular rounding as needed and is frequently on site at different surgical services locations on a rotational basis.
  • Quality and Safety: Responsible for enterprise safety processes and implementation of quality measures, improvements, and accreditations at designated sites.
  • Operational Efficiency and Stewardship: Assists site director and/or managers to manage efficient workflows, facility budgets, capital equipment purchases and labor costs setting and meeting targets. Helps with plans and implementation of effective staffing models. Also responsible for optimizing the value in surgical care delivery for their sites by demonstrating good stewardship of Intermountain resources used in surgical and procedural care. This includes ensuring compliance with supply chain contracts and supporting new product and product deviation requests through the value analysis team processes
  • Strategy Development: Assists with planning and implementing key strategies for surgical services, key process indicators and growth goals, engaging stakeholders, leaders, providers and caregivers to drive successful outcomes. Responsible for leading enterprise-wide initiatives and partner with nursing, clinical programs and service lines.
  • Physician Engagement: Lends support in physician recruitment and creates an environment of high engagement. Works locally with physicians to move the organization forward strategically and operationally.
  • Caregiver Experience: Coaches and mentors directors and managers to perform management and administrative duties to create a positive work environment that fosters a highly engaged workforce.
  • Clinical Excellence: Develops and supports the use of practice councils and professional development within the surgical services in line with enterprise programs.
  • Compliance: Supports all activities for compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory bodies including The Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, and DOPL.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).
  • Master’s degree in a clinical or business field from an accredited institution (degree verification required).
  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of surgical services-related policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in role requiring skills related to balancing clinical, regulatory, financial goals and outcomes and collaborating with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing others and serve as a mentor and role model.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed across assigned Surgical Services areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a leader of leaders within the healthcare industry.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for caregiver to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require caregiver to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
