Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to lead legal support for Commercial Lines, E&S and Specialty units, guiding strategic decisions and risk management across senior leadership teams.

The role requires a JD, active licensure, and at least fifteen years of deep insurance and regulatory experience, with strong leadership and collaborative skills to drive cross-functional initiatives and development of the OCLO function.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from ABA-accredited law school.
• Fully licensed to practice law in applicable state(s).
• Minimum fifteen years of deep insurance underwriting, commercial insurance, wholesale or distribution, and regulatory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead legal support for complex commercial lines, excess & surplus, and specialty matters.
• Engage senior leaders on underwriting, product, distribution, and regulatory initiatives.
• Provide strategic legal advice on commercial insurance operations, contracts, and third-party relations.
• Coordinate with OCLO teams to align resources with business needs.
• Lead cross-functional projects and mentor team members.
