Job summary

Nationwide is seeking an Associate Vice President, Contingent Liability Legal – P&C to lead strategic litigation oversight and governance for high‑risk matters. You will guide senior management on exposure, budgets, and outside counsel oversight while aligning with enterprise risk and business objectives.

You will drive governance, partner with Claims, Finance, Underwriting, Compliance and business leaders, and develop leadership across the legal team to deliver defensible outcomes for the P&C

Qualifications

• Education: Juris Doctorate from ABA-accredited law school.
• Experience: ten to fifteen years in legal and P&C insurance.
• Knowledge, abilities and skills: leadership, business and financial acumen, strong communication, collaboration and influencing across teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive legal opinions, counsel to senior management on prospective litigation and assess litigation exposure.
• Develop contingent-litigation strategy and advise on objectives, outcomes and budgets.
• Establish loss and expense reserves and produce financial reporting for statutory and GAAP purposes.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel, oversee retention terms, plans, budgets and discovery strategy.
• Lead a team of Counsels and develop the group’s workflow and capabilities.
