Job summary

PURE is seeking an AVP of Product Management for Underwriting & Product Technology in Boston. You will lead technology prioritization across underwriting and product, shaping the backlog and governance needed to align business value with capacity.

You will partner with IT and business leaders to define readiness criteria, improve requirements documentation, and drive clear decisions on what work proceeds and when.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in product management or technology portfolio roles.
• Insurance background in personal lines underwriting.
• Ability to prioritize under competing demands and drive decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including senior stakeholders.
• Experience building operating processes from scratch (intake, governance, cadences, reporting).
• Familiar with agile practices (backlogs, epics, features, capacity planning).
• CSPO/PSPO/SAFe PM/PO or similar certification preferred.
• Bachelor's degree required.

About the Role.

The AVP, Product Management - Underwriting & Product Technology will lead technology prioritization across our Underwriting and Product organizations. Business teams bring forward a steady stream of requests to improve our core policy platform, and those requests compete for technology capacity against planned product efforts. Representing the interests of the business, this role builds and runs the process that decides what gets done, in what order, and why, and drives alignment on those decisions with business and technology leaders.

What You'll Do.

• Define the prioritization framework for technology work across Underwriting and Product, including how requests are reviewed, how business value is assigned, how competing requests are compared, and how decisions are reached and recorded.
• Design and run the operating model that supports it: governance forums, meeting cadences, agendas, escalation paths, supporting materials, and regular status reporting to stakeholders and leadership on what is in progress, queued, blocked, and decided.
• Own and continuously refine the cross-team backlog so that it stays current, aligned to business objectives, and clearly justified as priorities shift.
• Facilitate prioritization forums with business owners and IT leaders. Make trade-offs explicit, drive the group to clear decisions, and when business owners require work to proceed, manage the resulting trade-offs and communicate the impact.
• Partner with IT leadership and system architects on capacity planning, sizing, and breaking work down from epic to feature, so that prioritization decisions reflect what each team can absorb.
• Define what the business must provide for a request to be ready for development, including requirements and acceptance criteria, and work with IT to improve how requirements are documented and signed off so that defects are minimized. Use lessons from completed work to refine these standards over time.

What You\'ll Need.

• 8 years of experience in product management, product ownership, program management, or technology portfolio management, with experience prioritizing work across multiple delivery teams.
• Personal lines insurance background, with working knowledge of underwriting, policy administration, and product change processes. Deep product expertise is not required, but you must understand the business well enough to assess value and challenge assumptions.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize well under competing demands: assign business value, make clear recommendations, and drive decisions when priorities are contested.
• Extremely organized, with the ability to manage a large volume of requests, decisions, and follow-ups across many teams without losing track of details.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including running decision-making forums with senior stakeholders and explaining difficult trade-offs clearly and constructively.
• Comfortable influencing decisions and outcomes outside of your direct authority, and building trusted working relationships with both business and IT partners.
• Experience building operating processes from scratch (intake, governance, cadences, reporting), not just running existing ones.
• Working familiarity with agile practices: backlogs, epics and features, capacity-based planning, and iterative refinement.
• Experience with a policy administration platform is preferred.
• Agile product owner or product management certification (CSPO, PSPO, SAFe PM/PO, or similar) is preferred.
• A bachelor's degree is required.
