Job description

About the Role:

At PURE Insurance, technology is more than an enabler-it is a strategic differentiator. We believe great technology, paired with exceptional people, creates better experiences for our members and stronger outcomes for our business.

We are seeking an experienced technology leader to lead the architecture and technical direction of PURE's Finance technology portfolio. Reporting to the Finance Divisional Information Officer (DIO), you will lead the architecture, technical strategy, and engineering direction for a portfolio that includes Billing, Payments, Accounting, Reinsurance, and enterprise financial integrations.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines technology strategy, enterprise architecture, people leadership, and business partnership. You'll work alongside Finance and technology leaders to modernize critical platforms, elevate engineering excellence, and help define how artificial intelligence transforms the way we build, deliver, and operate software.

If you're passionate about building great teams, simplifying complex systems, and creating technology that enables business growth, we'd love to talk.

Technology Strategy

  • Define and execute the multi-year technology vision and architecture roadmap for Finance.

  • Partner with Finance leadership to align technology investments with business strategy.

  • Guide strategic technology investment decisions by evaluating business value, architectural fit, security, operational risk, total cost of ownership, and long-term sustainability.

Architecture Leadership

  • Establish and evolve architecture principles, standards, governance, and reusable design patterns that enable scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.

  • Lead solution design for strategic initiatives, guiding complex technical decisions and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and long-term technology strategy.

  • Provide technical leadership across the Finance technology portfolio by fostering architectural consistency, managing technology risk, and driving engineering best practices.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead a small, high-impact team of engineers and foster a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Drive engineering excellence through modern delivery practices, quality metrics, and operational discipline.

Business Partnership

  • Partner with Finance, Infrastructure, Security, and Enterprise Architecture leaders to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and strategic vendor partnerships.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executive and business audiences.

AI & Modern Engineering

  • Lead the responsible adoption of AI across software architecture, development, testing, documentation, and operations.

  • Advance cloud-native architecture, API-first design, CI/CD, DevSecOps, observability, and automation.

  • Define measurable outcomes for AI-enabled engineering that improve productivity, quality, and developer experience.

What Success Looks Like

  • A clear multi-year architecture roadmap guides Finance technology investments.

  • A trusted architecture practice accelerates delivery while improving quality and consistency.

  • Engineering teams leverage AI and modern practices to deliver software faster, higher quality, reduced operating cost, more effectively without increasing risk.

  • Finance and Technology leaders view you as a strategic partner in business transformation.

  • A high-performing engineering organization is known for technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, architecture, or technology leadership.

  • Experience with Duck Creek billing platform, payment platforms, accounting systems, or other financial applications is required.

  • Proven success leading architecture for large-scale, business-critical enterprise platforms.

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams.

  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.

  • Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, cloud-native platforms (AWS preferred), APIs, event-driven and distributed architectures, modern integration patterns, and engineering platforms

  • Experience governing modern cloud and engineering ecosystems, including infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, CI/CD, observability, security, automation, and developer productivity platforms.

  • Experience leading modernization or digital transformation initiatives.

  • Experience leading the adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices and modern software delivery approaches across engineering teams.

  • Ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on enough to guide critical technical decisions.

  • Insurance industry experience—particularly Personal Lines P&C is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
