Position Summary

The AVP or VP Assistant Controller serves as key support to the Controller. This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for multiple entities on a U.S. Statutory and U.S. GAAP basis.

Role Responsibilities

• Leadership: Lead the accounting team, provide clear direction aligned with company objectives, financial strategy, and risk management priorities; act as a key partner to the Controller and executive leadership; prepare and present financial analysis; act as Controller in their absence; develop and mentor team members.
• Financial Close, Reporting, and Disclosures: Oversee quarterly and annual close processes; lead preparation and review of U.S. Statutory and GAAP financial statements; ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting; establish and enforce close calendars, review standards, and reporting governance.
• Technical Insurance Accounting: Provide leadership across life, annuity and reinsurance transactions; oversee accounting and analysis for reinsurance structures; support interpretation of new accounting guidance; document methodologies and policies.
• Controls, Audit, and Risk Management: Maintain robust internal control framework, conduct testing and remediation; coordinate and lead audits; establish accounting policies and governance.
• Systems, Data, and Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes; optimize use of financial systems; partner with IT to enhance data infrastructure and automation; identify and implement opportunities to strengthen data quality.
• Cross-Functional and Business Support: Collaborate with Business Development and New Deal Integration teams; partner with Actuarial, Treasury, Tax, and Investment teams; provide accounting guidance on new transactions and initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years within the life insurance or reinsurance industry.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. Statutory and GAAP accounting applicable to insurance and reinsurance companies.
• Big 4 public accounting experience or combination of public and private experience.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate, streamline, and enhance business processes.
• Proven sound judgment and decision‑making capabilities in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage teams.
• Experience managing outsourced and third‑party service provider relationships.
