Job summary

Berkley Specialty Property is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President, Underwriting to join our Engineering & Construction team in the United States. You will lead underwriting for Builders Risk and Construction All Risks, manage complex exposures, and shape profitability.

You will build strong broker partnerships, drive portfolio growth, and collaborate with global teams to support disciplined underwriting decisions and value creation for clients.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Builders Risk and/or Construction Property underwriting experience.
• Established broker relationships within the retail and/or wholesale market.
• Strong knowledge of construction and engineering risks, policy coverages, and underwriting principles.
• Proven track record of underwriting profitability and effective risk selection.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex risks and make informed, business-focused decisions.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
• Self-starter who works independently, takes initiative, and collaborates across teams.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of project-specific Builders Risk and Construction All Risks business across the United States.
• Assess exposures, determine pricing, analyze coverage, and structure profitable insurance solutions.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with retail and wholesale broker partners.
• Contribute to the growth and evolution of the Engineering & Construction portfolio through disciplined underwriting and market insight.
• Collaborate closely with underwriting, actuarial, claims, and portfolio management teams in London to support consistent, profitable growth.
