Job summary

System One is seeking an Avionics Technician II for a 6-month contract in Kent, WA. The role focuses on hands-on support to engineering, production, and manufacturing, performing test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of electro/mechanical systems used in spaceflight.

Candidates should have 3+ years in aerospace avionics, familiarity with ESD controls, soldering, wiring, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Avionics Technician II - C

Pay Rate: Starts at $50 and up to $52.00/hr
Location: Kent, WA
C Shift/Schedule: Fri-Sun 5:00am-5:30pm
Contract / 6-month assignment

Job Description Summary

Provides hands-on support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of electro/mechanical systems. Applications may include electronic circuits, power distribution, life/vehicle critical safety systems, and battery systems.

Work is performed from schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building different components and assemblies for all groups across different environments (development, test, and flight).
  • Assisting with assembly of new and updated designs by working directly with engineering to determine best practices for assembly.
  • Giving regular input on manufacturing improvement opportunities or build changes leading to more efficient assembly.
  • Serving both internal and external customers across multiple systems and platforms; each Technician is a valued part of the chain that supports safe human spaceflight.
  • Focusing on safety, collaborative teamwork, and quality to create high-quality components that will propel future astronauts and payloads into space for the improvement of mankind.
  • Applying torque to fasteners/components.
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repairing/testing wire harnesses.
  • Inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
  • Supporting manufacturing operations with a strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Skills & Experience

This role is part of the Engines, In-Space Systems and Test Ops group and is based in Kent, supporting multiple business units and groups across various facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of technicians, you will assemble, repair, and evaluate electrical and mechanical assemblies for various spaceflight systems. You will contribute to the production, evaluation, and development of Flight-grade Avionics.

Work in the Avionics Hardware Lab requires a high level of technical proficiency in:

  • Soldering
  • Component-level board work
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Assembly wiring
Minimum Qualifications
  • Familiarity working in an ESD EPA and with tool control/accountability processes.
  • Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering, and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters and power supplies).
  • Experience with applying torque to fasteners/components.
  • Experience fabricating, terminating, and repairing/testing wire harnesses.
  • 3+ years of experience in Aerospace Avionics or related fields.
  • Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and passion for space.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week (4x10 schedule) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience with application and removal of polymerics (staking, potting, encapsulation, and conformal coating).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly fabrication, CCA or PCBA repair, or component replacement.
  • Experience with energized power/high-voltage systems, battery systems, or RF assemblies.
  • Certification in and/or knowledge of IPC standards for assembly and inspection.
  • J-STD/J-STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework, and 620/620 Space Addendum.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders, and configuration management systems.
  • Experience documenting non-conformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs.
