Job summary

Varstaff Staffing seeks an Avionics Technician in Kent to perform assembly, test, and checkout of electro/mechanical avionics systems for spaceflight hardware. You will work from schematics and electrical diagrams, supporting manufacturing and flight readiness.

The role requires 3+ years in aerospace avionics, familiarity with hand soldering and basic test equipment, and ability to lift 50 lbs. Teamwork and safety are essential as you help ensure mission success.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and evaluate electrical and mechanical components for spaceflight systems.
  • Assist with manufacturing improvements and integration with engineering.
  • Support testing, checkout, and fault isolation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and spaceflight standards.
  • Collaborate across teams to meet launch schedules.

Job description

Varstaff is searching for Avionics Technicians in Kent.

Job Description Summary:

Provides hands-on support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of electro/mechanical systems. Applications may include electronic circuits, power distribution, life/vehicle critical safety systems and battery systems. Work is performed from schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble-shooting functions. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Performs work in both Laboratory setting as well as work on manufacturing floor or on vehicle depending on manufacturing needs.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Building different components and assemblies for all groups across Blue Origin in all different environments (development, test and flight).
  • Assisting with assembly of new and updated designs by working directly with engineering to determine best practices for assembly.
  • Giving regular input on manufacturing improvement opportunities or build changes leading to more efficient assembly.
  • Serve both internal and external customers across multiple systems and multiple platforms; each Technician is a valued part of the chain that supports safe human spaceflight.
  • A focus on safety, collaborative teamwork, and quality allows us to work together to determine the best path forward, balancing speed and safety to create high-quality components that will propel future astronauts and payloads into space for the improvement of mankind.
  • Experience with applying torque to fasteners/components.
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repair/testing of wire harnesses.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in Aerospace Avionics or related fields.
  • Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and passion for space.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week (4x10’s) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience with application and removal of polymerics (staking, potting. Encapsulation and conformal coating).

This role is part of the Engines, In-Space Systems and Test Ops group and is in Kent but supports all Business Units and groups across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of technicians, you will assemble, repair, and evaluate electrical and mechanical assemblies for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the production, evaluation, and development of Flight-grade Avionics. Work in the Avionics Hardware Lab requires a high level of technical proficiency in work such as soldering, component-level board work, mechanical assembly, and assembly wiring.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Familiarity working in an ESD EPA and with tool control/accountability processes.
  • Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters and power supplies).
  • Experience with applying torque to fasteners/components.
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repair/testing of wire harnesses.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in Aerospace Avionics or related fields.
  • Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and passion for space.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 -10years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly fabrication, CCA or PCBA repair or component replacement.
  • Experience with energized power/high voltage systems, battery systems or RF assemblies.
  • Certification in and/or knowledge of IPC standards for assembly and inspection.
  • J-STD/J-STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework and 620/620 Space Addendum.
  • Experience and capability to interface with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders and configuration management systems.
  • Experience with documenting non conformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs.
