Job summary

Southwest Research Institute's Embedded Systems Section seeks an aspiring engineer to support design, development, integration, and test of avionics electronics and embedded hardware for aerospace and defense.

You will assist senior engineers with schematic capture, component selection, interface definitions, circuit analysis, and lab troubleshooting, gaining hands-on experience across analog, digital, and power electronics.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Experience or coursework in schematic capture, circuit simulation, lab instrumentation, PCB/CCA development, embedded electronics, or electrical troubleshooting preferred.
• Familiarity with C/C++, Python, MATLAB, SPICE/PSpice, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, multimeters or similar tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Create and update schematics, BOMs, interface definitions, wiring information, and basic electrical design docs under guidance.
• Perform circuit calculations, component research, tolerance reviews, bench measurements, troubleshooting, and lab testing of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics.
• Support prototype build, bring-up, integration, and test of circuit card assemblies, embedded electronics, avionics interfaces, sensors, and test equipment.
• Use electrical engineering tools for schematic capture, simulation, data analysis, documentation, and configuration control.
• Learn applicable aerospace and defense design standards.
• Collaborate with systems, software, firmware, mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineers to resolve issues and support hardware integration.
