Job summary

Stillwater Area Public Schools seeks AVID Tutors to support AVID teachers by facilitating collaborative problem-solving among small groups of AVID students, using Socratic methods. Training is provided by District AVID Director under supervision of the classroom teacher.

Ideal candidates are current high school students (11th–12th grade) or graduates with strong knowledge in science, math, and English, excellent communication, and reliable attendance committed to a year of tutoring with 16 hours

Qualifications

High school student in 11th or 12th grade or has a high school diploma or equivalent.
Strong knowledge across science, math, and English.
Excellent verbal and written communication to convey concepts to secondary students.
Commitment to a year of tutoring and 16 hours of AVID training.
Reliable transportation and ability to participate in virtual meetings.

Responsibilities

Assist students in the successful completion of high school and college eligibility requirements.
Provide academic support for students in rigorous courses.
Actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials.
Participate and successfully complete 16 hours and AVID tutor training.
Participate in AVID field trips and motivational activities when possible.
Facilitate the tutorial learning process and implement AVID methodologies.
Adhere to district/site policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
