Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools seeks AVID tutor to assist middle and high school students in math, reading, and study skills. The role supports college readiness and uses Socratic questioning in small groups.

Qualified candidates are currently enrolled in high school or hold a high school diploma, are at least 16, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational abilities. This is a part-time, temporary position up to 19 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in high school or possess a high school diploma.
• Current enrollment in college coursework preferred.
• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
• Experience demonstrating strong organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate with and appreciate individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in math, reading and general study skills in AVID program groups.
• Use Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to guide students.
• Support AVID tutors and teachers to help students reach college readiness.
