Brenham Independent School District is seeking AVID Tutors for Brenham Junior High and Brenham High Schools. Tutors will guide students toward academic and personal excellence, participating actively in learning, growth, and personal development of students.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students.
• They should be enrolled at colleges or universities.
• Tutors should represent balanced academic backgrounds and work with secondary students.
• They must be willing to meet regularly to discuss student progress and to confer with the teacher about future tutorial plans.

Responsibilities

• Conduct tutorial sessions that underscore collaborative learning and student teaching.
• Determine concepts to focus on from worksheets, notes and discussions.
• Work with students in various stages of writing: brainstorming, clustering, read arounds, revision, editing.
• Guide students to take ownership of their learning and develop independent strategies.
• Reinforce that learning supports long-term achievements.
• Assist with subject-area learning using AVID resources and textbooks.
• Evaluate student binders, notes, and learning logs.
• Assist in teaching study skills and college preparation.
• Set a positive tone and high expectations in the AVID classroom.
• Communicate with AVID coordinator/teachers regarding progress and concerns.
• Develop enrichment material resources for tutorial sessions.
