Burnsville-Eagan-Savage District 191 is seeking an AVID Tutor to support students in the AVID elective class. The role focuses on guiding collaborative study groups, organizing materials, and building strong student relationships to foster academic success.
The position is part-time with hours 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, offering $19.00 per hour and a pathway to college and career readiness through AVID.

Position Overview: AVID Tutor
District One91 secondary schools offer AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a college and career prep program designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges. AVID serves all students by ensuring they acquire the organizational and study skills needed for them to be successful. Students learn academic strategies to develop critical thinking skills and ask probing questions. AVID Tutors support in the AVID elective class by guiding collaborative study groups, providing organization and critical thinking support, and generally developing relationships with students that foster a connectedness to school and the school community.

In the AVID elective class, students learn skills that will help prepare them to be successful in advanced courses in both high school and college. Students focus on writing, critical thinking, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills and organization. Twice a week, tutors will come into the AVID classroom to help answer questions that students have about difficult topics. As part of the course, students will also explore potential careers and even visit colleges and universities! Although AVID serves all students, it focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. Determination is a key component of the AVID program.
