Code 1 Aviation, LLC in Rockford, IL, is seeking a Service Writer to join our maintenance team. The role acts as the glue that holds a work order together, communicating with customers, coordinating with mechanics, and keeping management informed from intake to delivery.

This hands-on position, based at our Rockford location, requires strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills to ensure each job stays on track and on time.

Qualifications

• Strong communication to explain aircraft status to non-mechanics.
• Organizational skill to move multiple work orders simultaneously.
• Familiarity with aviation maintenance terms and workflow.
• Experience with maintenance tracking software and basic Excel/Office work.
• Calm, customer-facing demeanor under busy conditions.

Responsibilities

• Open work orders for incoming aircraft and record discrepancies and requests accurately.
• Provide customer updates during the shop process including findings and changes to estimates.
• Coordinate with mechanics and Maintenance Leadership to scope additional work.
• Obtain customer sign-off on extra work and log it correctly in the system.
• Monitor progress and flag delays due to parts, findings, or other issues.
• Keep estimates current as work progresses and parts are used.
• Track parts orders and delivery timing with vendors.
• Keep paperwork audit-ready: discrepancies, labor, parts, and sign-offs.
• Manage final walk-through and closeout when aircraft is ready.
