Job summary

Liberty University’s School of Aeronautics seeks a Director of Safety to lead the safety program across Flight Operations, Simulator Operations, AMTP and UAS, ensuring compliant risk management and a safe student training environment.

The DOS will establish a Safety Management System, coordinate internal and external audits, promote a strong safety culture, and supervise training for faculty and staff, reporting to the Executive Director of Operations.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in aviation, safety, or related field.
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (14 CFR 60,61,91,141,147).
• Proven ability to design and implement safety initiatives for complex operations.
• Hold and maintain a third-class medical or higher.

Responsibilities

• Promotes a culture of safety among faculty, staff and students.
• Aligns policies with FAA, NTSB, OSHA safety regulations and updates safety documentation.
• Serves as a safety liaison, providing briefings and risk mitigation recommendations.
• Manages the Safety Reporting System and analyzes safety risks from reports and surveys.
• Oversees the Emergency Response Plan and leads investigations of incidents.
• Collaborates with Flight, AMTP, UAS and Simulator Operations to manage daily risk.
• Oversees SMS Safety Assurance and FOQA programs; supports audits.
• Adheres to Liberty University policies and represents the University.
• Supports LU's Christ-centered mission and training Champions for Christ.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
