Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Urban Planner to support the Florida Department of Transportation and HNTB on aviation and transportation initiatives, including AAM and UAS. The role involves developing briefs, coordinating with agencies, and leading planning workshops across Florida.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in urban planning, GIS, data analysis, and project management, with advanced certifications and the ability to travel regionally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field with 4 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience.
• Proficient using software specific to planning jobs.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field.
• Preferred certifications: PE, EIT, AICP, PTP

Responsibilities

• Provide programmatic, technical, and stakeholder support to FDOT leadership and HNTB.
• Support coordination and execution of aviation and transportation initiatives including Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and UAS.
• Develop briefings, reports, presentations, and executive communications.
• Coordinate with government agencies, industry partners, airports, academic institutions, and technology providers.
• Support project planning, stakeholder engagement, workshops, demonstrations, and special events.
• Track program schedules, action items, deliverables, and strategic priorities.
• Travel throughout Florida to SunTrax and nationally as needed.

Job description

• Provide programmatic, technical, and stakeholder support to Florida Department of Transportation leadership and HNTB
• Support coordination and execution of emerging aviation and transportation initiatives, including Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS)
• Develop briefings, reports, presentations, and executive-level communications
• Coordinate with government agencies, industry partners, airports, academic institutions, and technology providers
• Support project planning, stakeholder engagement, workshops, demonstrations, and special events
• Track program schedules, action items, deliverables, and strategic priorities
• Support research, policy analysis, funding opportunities, and implementation planning
• Research data sources, gather and analyze data for projects
• Use GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis
• Investigate and recommend planning processes and technical solutions
• Lead internal and external coordination with project team members
• Participate in client meetings and interactions
• Prepare maps, exhibits, and presentation materials
• Conduct research on planning issues, policies, and concepts and formulate recommendations
• Develop conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects
• Write major sections of and lead production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents
• Participate in public processes and stakeholder facilitation
• Travel throughout Florida, regularly to the SunTrax Research and Development Facility, and occasionally nationally

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 4 years related professional experience, or Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience
• Proficient at using software specific to planning jobs
