Job Description

Vocational Instructor – Aviation Maintenance Technology General and Airframe. To safely and effectively instruct students in accordance with industrial standards associated with Chapter 74 Aviation Mechanics, and in accordance with school policies, procedures, schedules, and negotiated agreements. The instructor will prepare students to achieve a future of successful careers, technical curiosity, healthy life choices, and strength of character.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Possess necessary approvals/license to teach Aviation Maintenance Technology General and Airframe: Airframe Maintenance as prescribed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) under Chapter 74.
• Possess a current license and/or certification(s) in the trade area (e.g., FAA Mechanic Certificate - Airframe Rating) or ability to attain licensure.
• Possession of a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Power plant Certification 147
• Possess a current and successful industry background ensuring capabilities to succeed as an instructor in this field (at least 5 years of relevant industry experience preferred).
• Demonstrated ability to relate positively to students and colleagues with humor, enthusiasm, and a clear sense of purpose.
• Exemplary personal history supported by professional references.
• Required CORI and SAFIS Background Check clearance per 603 CMR 51.00.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

• Organize and deliver instruction sequentially following the most current Massachusetts CTE Curriculum Frameworks for Aviation Mechanics under the Transportation Cluster, utilizing Competency-Based Education methods tailored to individual student learning styles.
• Prepare and deliver appropriate instruction for aviation maintenance technology standards aligned with department goals.
• Provide instruction in trade skills, problem-solving, proper equipment usage, and fundamental aviation shop operations.
• Employ welcoming, motivating, and student-centered methods of instruction to create a positive learning environment.

Health, Safety, & Risk Mitigation

• Provide comprehensive instruction on all aspects of health and safety within the Aviation Mechanics Airframe Maintenance Industry, including OSHA 10 General Industry standards.
• Foster a safety-conscious shop environment by teaching principles of human error prevention, risk mitigation, tool/equipment management, chemical/fuel handling, and proper PPE usage.
• Display and promote safe working practices at all times.

Classroom Management & Administration

• Maintain decorum, classroom management, and control of assigned students to ensure a safe, healthful, and productive learning environment.
• Update student grades and records consistently in the district’s Student Information System (SIS) and competency tracking platform.
• Adhere strictly to student privacy and confidentiality policies at all times.

Collaboration & Professional Engagement

• Collaborate with department heads, colleagues, and the Vocational Director on budget development, curriculum planning, advisory committee logistics, and state/national assessments.
• Attend departmental, curriculum development, and all required staff meetings.
• Engage in continuous professional improvement to remain current with modern aviation technology and pedagogy.

Job Requirements

• PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  Must be able to navigate a large regional vocational facility, including walking through active industrial shop environments.
  Standard office environment with standard sitting, typing, and lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
  Schedule Note: This position requires a flexible schedule to occasionally accommodate evening hours for Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings and other school related events.
