General Job Summary

Operated by Pierpont Community & Technical College, the Center's Aviation MaintenanceTechnology program is part of the School of Business, Aviation & Technology. The Center was established in support of the North Central West Virginia aerospace industry. The successful candidate will teach a full-time instructional load of 19 contact hours per semester, advise students, and engage in research and professional development activities commensurate with the duties and responsibilities defined in the College’s Faculty Handbook.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct classroom and hangar instruction, student advising, and evaluation;
  • work on, under, and around a variety of aircraft and aircraft systems.
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching aids, and assessment tools to show competency to the FAA level of training;
  • Attend and participate in assigned committees, faculty meetings; and in-service programs;
  • Ensure students successfully complete shop/laboratory assignments;
  • Manage all required shop projects and maintain shop inventory and condition of training equipment and supplies;
  • Submit accurate grade and attendance information within established time periods;
  • Actively pursue on-the-job and formalized training programs to enhance job performance;
  • Engage with institutional colleagues related to committee and faculty development.

  • Abides by all purchasing rules and provisions and reports/balances account as required or directed;

  • Adheres to all safety rules and provisions; reports any personal accidents/injuries or accidents/injuries of assigned staff to HR by end of the workday or work shift, and completes all required performance evaluations timely, completely, and accurately; and
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned and as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and skills applicable subject areas including Aviation Math, Basic Electricity,Basic Electronics, Airframe Systems and Powerplant Systems.
  • able to work in both the classroom and hangar environment with traditional and nontraditional students; and
  • Verbal and interpersonal communication skills for effective classroom management and ability to facilitate discussions with diverse individuals and groups of varying size.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and schedule business engagement activities to meet department goals and deadlines;
  • Active listening skills leading to appropriate sales techniques creating value added opportunities;
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and maintain confidentiality;
  • Excellent time management, presentation and communication skills (oral and written);
  • Proficiency using computers and related multiple software applications, including MS Suite, Google products;
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and work effectively and ethically within a diverse community;
  • Ability to work independently while following directives from college leadership
Education and Experience
  • An FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification and FCC Repairman Certificate with at least 5 years of relevant, verifiable aviation maintenance work experience that meets FAA standards for Part 147 instruction.
  • Associate's degree in relevant field of study required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 40 pounds; standing, sitting and/or walking for long periods.
  • Travel required: some (less than 10%) out-of-state travel for related CWE conferences and professional development.
