Job description

Salary Range $93,600 to $124,800 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

At Hot Section Technologies, this role is not a generic engineering seat. It is a hands-on liaison engineering position inside an FAA and EASA Part 145 repair station, supporting aircraft component repair with technically sound, regulatorily compliant engineering dispositions, repair instructions, technical data control, and DER/OEM coordination. This position is central to keeping repairs moving, supporting Maintenance and Quality, and ensuring that complex conditions are addressed correctly and efficiently.

We are seeking an experienced Aviation Liaison Engineer who understands the realities of a regulated repair-station environment: working from SRM, AMM, CMM, and configuration data, supporting shop-floor technical needs, developing repair instructions, maintaining engineering records, and coordinating approval paths for major or out-of-manual repairs.

What you will do

  • Prepare clear engineering dispositions, repair instructions, sketches, drawings, limits, and inspection criteria using approved data and acceptable data where permitted.
  • Develop preliminary repair data for major or out-of-manual conditions and coordinate approval through the contracted FAA DER or OEM/DAH as required.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Maintenance and Quality, including clarification of blend limits, hold points, special processes, and urgent repair needs.
  • Maintain technical publications, controlled engineering records, approvals, calculations, and traceability to work orders and parts.
  • Support repair planning through fixture/tooling identification and repair time estimates.
  • Review NCRs and inspection findings, evaluate technical data, and classify repair conditions requiring standard disposition versus engineering action.
  • Coordinate with the Repair Manager, Chief Inspector & Quality Manager, contracted FAA DER, OEM/DAH, and other internal stakeholders to keep engineering support aligned with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to process-specification development, technical justifications for audits, and continuous-improvement efforts related to turnaround time, rework, and document control.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent foundational experience in a regulated technical environment.
  • Experience supporting engineering activities in an FAA and/or EASA Part 145 environment, including drafting dispositions, coordinating approvals, and supporting shop-floor troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of SRM, AMM, and CMM technical data.
  • Ability to produce clear repair sketches and drawings and work effectively with CAD tools.
  • Strong documentation discipline and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to Maintenance, Quality, regulators, and external technical contacts.
  • Working knowledge of FAA regulations applicable to aircraft maintenance and repair, including 14 CFR Parts 43 and 145.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace applications such as Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and Chat.
  • Strong mathematical capability, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, arithmetic operations, and unit conversion.
  • U.S. work authorization, pre-employment background check, and DOT/FAA-compliant drug test required; ongoing participation in the FAA/DOT Anti-Drug & Alcohol program is mandatory.

Preferred qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of progressive technical experience in FAA and EASA certified repair stations or similar regulated environments.
  • Experience collaborating with contracted FAA DERs and developing substantiated repair solutions.
  • Familiarity with OEM/DAH technical interfaces and approval paths for major or out-of-manual repairs.
  • Advanced CAD familiarity, including Autodesk Fusion 360 or equivalent.

Work environment

This is an on-site role in Oxnard, California. The position is based primarily in an office setting but requires regular presence on the repair station floor to support technical processes, communication, and compliance. The environment includes exposure to machinery, tools, aircraft components, and potentially hazardous materials such as solvents, adhesives, and paints. Personal protective equipment is required in accordance with FAA and OSHA guidelines.

  • Health insurance: $350 per month employer contribution toward the team member’s premium
  • Dependent health coverage: $200 per month total employer contribution toward dependent coverage.
  • Dental, vision, and life insurance: 100% employer-paid
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match
  • Profit sharing: annual program; eligible after 90 days; based on company performance and goal attainment; not guaranteed
  • PTO and 8 company-paid holidays
  • Additional paid time off may be provided around July 4 and Christmas/New Year’s based on company performance and goal attainment
  • Structured on-the-job training and professional development
  • Regular team-building activities and monthly company lunches
