Job summary

Buro Happold is seeking an Associate Principal Electrical Engineer – Aviation to join our hybrid team in New York City or Pittsburgh, PA. You will deliver technical leadership on complex aviation projects, manage budgets and schedules, and build strong client relationships while advancing business development within the aviation sector.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of electrical engineering design experience in the building services and construction industry.
• 10+ years of aviation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources.
• Strong client relationship management and business development skills.
• Strong understanding of FAA requirements, airport operational constraints, and industry best practices.
• Ability to accept a high degree of responsibility in a team-based organization, combined with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, listening and presentation skills.
• Extensive leadership experience within an MEP Engineering Consultancy.
• Strong track record of successful project delivery.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable building codes.
• Broad electrical design knowledge gained through working on a wide range of projects.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and lighting design software such as AGI or DIALux.
• Detailed understanding of Excel, including the use of macros.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Experience across a wide range of projects, including the design of Power Distribution, Emergency Lighting, Generators, Fire Alarm Systems, Utility Coordination, and related electrical systems.
• Understanding of ICT and lighting design specifications.
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• LEED AP accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and project leadership on complex aviation projects.
• Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships while contributing to business development opportunities within the aviation sector.
• Keep senior staff informed of important and relevant service/design decisions and ensure the objectives of the client are achieved.
• Continually ensure practices, policies, strategy and services represent the client’s best interests and that Buro Happold policy is in keeping with current legislation and relevant building codes.
• Maintain an overview of the project team’s workload and commitments to successfully meet deadlines and balance resource utilization.
• Actively contribute toward delivering profitable projects in the context of project finances.
• Monitor the financial performance of jobs, including setting up and managing job/project administrative systems and planning and monitoring job resourcing and expenditure.
• Apply a strong understanding of FAA requirements, airport operational constraints, and aviation industry best practices throughout project planning and delivery.
• Provide leadership and guidance to project teams while maintaining high standards of technical quality.
