Job summary

Wild Bird Rehabilitation in Missouri seeks an Avian Rehabilitation Manager to lead the Center's day-to-day operations, guiding care plans, feeding, and medical treatment with final authority on bird releases and records.

This full-time exempt role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure; a bachelor’s degree or RVT is preferred. The position reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or RVT certification preferred but not required.
• Avian rehabilitation or avian medical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and refine standard operating procedures and tracking systems for the medical floor to ensure smooth, consistent day-to-day operations.
• Determine the timing of birds' movement through each stage of care.
• Document bird weights to inform movement and release decisions.
• Determine the timing, manner, and location of each release into the wild.
• Ensure patient charts are complete, accurate, and timely, and that they follow the bird through every stage of care.
• Determine diet and feeding intervals for each patient.
• Ensure all medications are administered in strict accordance with industry best practices.
• Assign daily tasks to Center medical staff and volunteers, answer questions, and provide ongoing training.
• Monitor inventory levels of food, seed, medical supplies, and other medical floor equipment, and coordinate restock and purchase requests with the appropriate administrative staff.
• Oversee the day-to-day work of medical floor staff and volunteers to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care and smooth operations.
• Set daily priorities and assign and adjust workloads as needed.
• Provide hands-on guidance and training to staff and volunteers.
• Address performance and conduct issues directly and promptly, including participating in performance management as needed.
• Maintain clear expectations and ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with Center standards.
• With the Executive Director, prepare and file permits and reports for relevant regulatory bodies, including MDC and USFW.
• Procure veterinarian documentation for the transfer of birds to non-rehabilitative facilities.
• Notify MDC and USFW when an endangered species is admitted to the Center.
• Oversee and ensure the quality and consistency of all interactions between the medical team and Center visitors, partners, and the public.
• Provide or guide clear, accurate, and engaging communication about patient care and the Center’s work.
• Ensure that all medical team interactions reflect the professionalism and standards of Wild Bird Rehabilitation.
• Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Manager to ensure cohesive volunteer training and smooth coordination between staff and volunteers on the medical floor.

Education
