Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) in Thompson Pass, AK is seeking an Avalanche Technician to monitor hazards, forecast conditions, and support winter highway maintenance. Qualifications

• Knowledge of ammunition and explosives handling, storage, and disposal.

Responsibilities

• Monitor avalanche hazards and forecast conditions along key highways.
• Coordinate avalanche control operations and advise on safety measures.
• Support year-round highway maintenance, operating snow removal equipment and handling materials.
• Maintain avalanche and weather records and manage rescue equipment inventories.
• Coordinate road closures and control operations with agencies, highway crews, and the public.
