Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the handling and disposal of explosives and/or incendiary devices or three years in avalanche control and forecasting; or two years in related contingency planning, exercises, emergency response, or recovery; experience as Emergency Management Specialist 2 or equivalent; scuba diving experience with instructor/supervisor capacity.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and forecast avalanche hazards along the Richardson and Copper River Highways and coordinate avalanche control operations.
• Support year-round highway maintenance at Thompson Pass, operating heavy equipment for snow removal and road maintenance.
• Maintain avalanche and weather records, manage rescue equipment and explosives inventories, and provide avalanche safety education.
• Coordinate road closures and control operations with agencies, highway crews, and the public.
