Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Bay Pines Health Care System is seeking a Pathology Specialist in the Anatomic Pathology Service at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL.

The role includes accessioning, examining, dissection, and processing tissue samples, with autopsy duties as required. The position requires either specialized experience at GS-11 or appropriate graduate education, including potential combination with education.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience in anatomic pathology and related medical laboratory functions; examine gross and microscopic tissues; apply histology and immunohistochemistry techniques.
• 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree for GS-11 eligibility; part-time education can count proportionally.
• Combination of specialized experience and education as described above may qualify at GS-11; education beyond the required for the next lower grade may be combined with experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in accessioning, examination, and dissection; processing of tissue samples; function as autopsy assistant and perform autopsies as needed.
• Apply permanent and frozen section techniques and standard biochemical stains.
• Perform quality assurance and adhere to infection-control requirements in anatomic pathology operations.
