Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time Lead Autopsy Assistant position is to assist the Medical Examiner in performing medico-legal autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death.

Job Duties Include

• Assigning work to and training lower-level Autopsy Assistants, overseeing their work.
• Obtaining photographs in accordance with NAME accreditation and autopsy standards, including 'as is' photos, evidence, tattoos, and identification photos.
• Operating full body x-ray and CT Scan equipment to locate projectiles, document injuries, and prepare dental x-rays. Undressing remains and securing personal effects for external examination and photography.
• Assisting with evidence collection during autopsies, including homicide and suspicious cases.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.

Experience: Two years of experience embalming or assisting in autopsies.

Notes

• An Associate degree in mortuary science may substitute for one year of experience.
• Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Military service in relevant roles may substitute for experience.
