Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX seeks a Simulation Engineer to build the simulation engine behind autonomous construction machines, enabling scalable, scenario-driven, high-fidelity simulations in NVIDIA Omniverse.

You will combine modern C++/Python with game engine concepts to integrate robotic behaviors, autonomy systems, and sensor data into immersive visualization platforms, collaborating across autonomy, controls, and field engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/SE/Robotics or related field.
• 3+ years of Python experience; C++ preferred.
• 2+ years in simulation, robotics, game engines, distributed systems, or autonomous systems.
• Experience building multi-threaded and multi-process networked systems with deterministic behavior and reliable message delivery.
• Experience running containerized workloads in cloud environments, including job orchestration, CI integration, and data I/O with object storage such as Docker, AWS Batch, and S3.
• Capable of writing clear, concise documentation that accurately captures system design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and validate cross-functional simulation workflows across autonomy, controls, and field engineering.
• Write scalable Python and C++ code with clean, well-documented interfaces.
• Create tooling for scenario-based simulation workflows, including scenario authoring, test automation, and validation plans against real-world data.
• Work in NVIDIA Omniverse, including USD workflows, Omniverse Kit/Code, PhysX, and Omniverse-based pipeline development.
