Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Simulation Engineer in Irving, TX to build the simulation engine for autonomous construction machines.

You will develop the framework, orchestration, and scalability for high-fidelity machine, jobsite, and sensor simulations in NVIDIA Omniverse to evaluate and improve autonomous systems. The role requires modern C++/Python, game-engine principles, and collaboration with autonomy, controls, and field engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Machine Learning, or related field.
• 3+ years of Python experience; C++ experience strongly preferred.
• 2+ years of software development experience in simulation, robotics, game engines, distributed systems, or autonomous systems.
• Experience building multi-threaded and multi-process networked systems with deterministic behavior, reliable message delivery, ordering, retries, and error detection.
• Experience running containerized workloads in cloud environments, including job orchestration, CI integration and data I/O with object storage (Docker, AWS Batch, S3).
• Capable of writing clear, concise documentation that accurately captures system design.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Functional Simulation Workflow Development: Collaborate with autonomy, controls, and field engineering to design and validate simulation workflows.
• Scalable Software Development: Write maintainable, scalable, and well-tested Python and C++ code with clean interfaces.
• Scenario-Based Simulation Tooling: Create tooling for scenario authoring, test automation, and validation against real-world data.
• NVIDIA Omniverse Pipeline Development: Develop in Omniverse, USD workflows, Omniverse Kit/Code, PhysX, and pipeline components.
