Job summary

Overland AI in Seattle seeks a Software Systems Safety Engineer to lead software safety for autonomous ground vehicles. You will join the SST safety team and work with autonomy software teams on perception, planning, and control to ensure safety through analysis and test evidence.

You will contribute to MIL-STD-882E safety programs, ATEC releases, and customer certifications, shaping safety content in safety cases and reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or related discipline.
Experience performing software safety analysis under MIL-STD-882E/JSSSEH or equivalent (DO-178C, ISO 26262, IEC 61508).
Ability to read C++ or Python and analyze design/code for safety.
Experience managing requirements (Jama, Doors, Polarion) and issue tracking (JIRA).
Experience supporting Unit Testing, SW Integration Testing, and Embedded SW Testing.
Independent engineering judgment on risk and ability to explain to software engineers and reviewers.

Responsibilities

Identify safety-significant software functions and assign control categories per MIL-STD-882E/JSSSEH.
Plan and execute level-of-rigor tasks for safety analysis of requirements, architecture, design, and code.
Analyze autonomy software for hazards, including ML components and sensor degradation.
Derive safety requirements and trace to design, code, and verification.
Collaborate on safety-critical design such as fault detection, safeties, watchdogs, and safe-stop.
