Job summary

Joby Advanced Development is seeking an Autonomy Embedded Engineer in Santa Cruz to own and grow HITL and test-automation capabilities for flight automation systems. You will ensure fidelity, coverage, and reliability of the pipeline that tests the redundant compute system before deployment, collaborating with software, flight controls, avionics, and test teams.

The role demands hands-on experience with C++ and Python, Bazel, Linux, and embedded buses, plus a passion for clean, scalable OO

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in CS/EE or equivalent with 5+ years embedded/test-automation experience.
Strong C++ and Python, fluent with Git.
Experience building HITL/test-automation infra for embedded systems in CI.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain the test infrastructure and fault injection frameworks for in-the-loop testing.
Create hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and aircraft-in-the-loop simulation infrastructure.
Bring up and maintain HITL rigs and align hardware with real aircraft.
Build and extend hardware-CI pipelines for flight software deployment and tests.
Write Bazel-based C++ and Python tests, including property-based tests.
Integrate new sensors/actuators into simulated and HITL environments over CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, ARINC 429, Ethernet.
Triage rig and CI failures and drive root causes with reproducible cases.
Collaborate with flight test and controls to convert observed flight data into repeatable scenarios.
