Job summary

AIRO is seeking a visionary Autonomy and Controls Engineering Lead located in Phoenix, AZ to direct the development of next-generation flight software and stabilization algorithms for advanced UAS platforms.

You will bridge control theory with embedded hardware, own core flight software, and guide a robotics/firmware team from simulation to live flight testing in demanding environments.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in robotics, aerospace, CS, with 5+ years in real-time control software.
• Expert in C/C++ and Python in embedded flight environments.
• Strong knowledge of linear/non-linear control, state estimation.
• Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot autopilots.
• Hands-on sensor fusion and EKF state estimation.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and tune flight control systems for novel UAS platforms.
• Deliver GPS-denied navigation via multi-sensor fusion and EKF/VO pipelines.
• Integrate and customize flight stacks (PX4, ArduPilot, ROS) for production.
• Lead SIL/HIL simulation campaigns to validate safety-critical software.
• Define hardware-software interfaces and collaborate across disciplines.
• Mentor and scale a controls/autonomy team with robust architecture.
