Job summary

Heaviside Industries seeks engineers to own testing of autonomous undersea systems from planning through delivery. You will gather requirements, design or source test equipment, and supervise lab and open-water campaigns with vessels and tracking.

Expect responsibilities for documentation, root-cause analysis, and budgeted program management. The role requires hands-on testing on water, comfort around boats, and potential security clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience testing complex systems (AUVs/UUVs, ROVs, unmanned vessels, sonar).
  • Experience designing and fabricating test equipment (pressure vessels, waterproofing, marine hardware).
  • Current or eligibility for U.S. Government security clearance; ITAR considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Own the testing process from planning to product delivery for autonomous undersea systems.
  • Plan test campaigns and manage requirements gathering and tracking.
  • Design, fabricate, or acquire needed test equipment and maintain inventory.
  • Direct and execute tests from lab component development to open-water verification.
  • Plan on-water test logistics including vessels, launch/recovery, and tracking during sorties.
  • Document testing activities for internal decision-making and customer verification of obligations.
  • Identify failures and lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Manage budgets and timelines for testing with engineers and production teams.
  • Ensure safety and contingency planning for complex maritime test events with many personnel.
