Job summary

Penn Medicine's Department of Surgery at HUP Cedar Campus seeks an experienced NP or PA to serve as the primary Advanced Practice Provider for the surgical team. This highly autonomous, on-site role partners with attending surgeons and hospitalists to evaluate, manage, and coordinate care for a broad range of surgical patients.

The APP will work with nursing leadership, case management, and interdisciplinary teams to support throughput, care continuity, and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• ACLS required
• BLS/CPR required
• Acute Care NP or Masters PA required
• Pennsylvania license active at time of hire
• Prescriptive Authority required
• RN-PA license (if applicable for NP)

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive evaluations of new surgical consults across HUP Cedar.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with attending surgeons and the primary hospitalist team.
• Manage ongoing surgical consults and follow patients throughout their hospitalization.
• Perform bedside procedures within credentialed privileges and scope of practice.
• Facilitate communication between HUP Cedar and Department of Surgery teams across Penn Medicine.
• Provide patient and family education regarding surgical conditions, treatment plans, and postoperative care.
• Assist in discharge planning and transitions of care to ensure continuity across the surgical journey.
• Support quality improvement initiatives, operational goals, and departmental projects.
