Job summary

TALENT Software Services seeks a Safety Engineer in Utah to ensure autonomous machinery is safe from design through deployment. You will lead safety analyses and oversee engineering designs for heavy autonomous equipment and conduct on-site site assessments.

The role supports cross‑functional teams and requires hands‑on problem solving, travel to customer sites, and collaboration with safety leadership to shape project scope.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, occupational safety, or related field.
• 3+ years in engineering with safety of machines or powered equipment in industrial environments; 5+ years preferred.
• Experience in plant maintenance, controls engineering, or mine safety with real hazard assessments welcomed.

Responsibilities

• Review designs (mechanical, electrical, control, software) for safety and lead design safety.
• Conduct hazard/risk analyses (HARA, STPA, FMEA, FTA) on machine systems and control architectures.
• Derive safety requirements and ensure traceability and verifiability.
• Determine safety function performance levels and verify implementations.
• Develop verification/test plans for safety functions and review evidence.
• Maintain safety documentation and support safety audits.
• Travel to customer sites to assess operating environments and write site assessments.
• Author site safety plans and specify protective measures to be installed and tested.
• Define safe operating envelope and obtain permits for autonomous operation.
• Train customer staff on safety responsibilities and act as safety contact for projects.
