Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an Early/Mid‑Career Autonomous Aerospace Systems Engineer to advance autonomous flight system technologies from concept through simulation to flight. You will work with a team of researchers, engineers, and technologists on sensing, planning, and analysis for hypersonic vehicle missions.

Responsibilities include developing subsystems, algorithms, and simulations, maturing them for flight tests, and leading new projects in trusted autonomy for high‑consequence

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science field.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q-level security clearance.
• Experience in autonomous systems concepts.
• Experience with flight mechanics or autonomous flight software.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and technologists to develop autonomous flight system technologies from concept to flight.
• Develop autonomous flight solutions for subsystems/payloads or flight software algorithms for demonstrations.
• Create physics-based or agent-driven simulation and analysis tools for mission scenarios.
• Lead new projects applying trusted autonomy to high-consequence missions.
• Work in simulation, laboratory, and field-testing environments; some onsite activities required.
