Used Car Manager

Our Used Car Managers drive dealership profitability through smart inventory acquisition, strategic pricing, and strong retail performance. Success in today's market requires more than managing inventory — it takes a sharp understanding of market trends, digital merchandising, and what it takes to turn inventory into profitable sales.

As a Used Car Manager, you'll oversee the used vehicle operation from acquisition to retail, making data-driven decisions to maintain a competitive inventory, maximize gross, and drive consistent inventory turn. We're looking for an experienced used car professional who understands the modern digital marketplace, knows how to buy vehicles the right way, and can build a profitable used car operation.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire quality used vehicles through auctions, trades, and other sourcing channels while maintaining disciplined appraisals and purchase decisions.
  • Manage a large used vehicle inventory, monitor aging units, and maintain strong inventory turn.
  • Develop competitive pricing strategies using market data, online pricing tools, and local market trends to maximize retail profitability.
  • Oversee online merchandising, including vehicle descriptions, photos, pricing, and inventory presentation across digital platforms.
  • Manage the reconditioning process in partnership with the Service Department to get vehicles front-line ready efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Monitor inventory performance, cost-to-market, gross profit, and turn to identify opportunities and make informed business decisions.
  • Work closely with Sales and dealership leadership to drive retail sales, improve processes, and achieve department goals.
  • Stay current on used vehicle market trends, digital retailing strategies, and competitive inventory.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure compliance with dealership policies and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; proven used car management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire vehicles properly, appraise trades, and make profitable buying decisions.
  • Strong internet and digital skills, including experience with online merchandising, market analysis, and inventory pricing tools such as vAuto or similar platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage large inventories, control aging units, maintain inventory turn, and drive retail profitability.
  • Strong understanding of used vehicle pricing, reconditioning costs, market demand, and retail sales strategies.
  • Analytical and results-driven, with the ability to use inventory data to make sound business decisions.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Automotive service or mechanical experience is a plus, particularly when evaluating vehicle condition, estimating reconditioning needs, and making acquisition decisions.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
