Job summary

Alvin College seeks an Automotive Instructor at the J3 Unit to deliver full-time, on-site instruction in automotive technology and repair within the TDCJ program.

You will prepare lesson plans, lead lectures and hands-on labs, assess progress, and maintain records. Collaboration with college staff and TDCJ personnel is essential to prepare students for entry-level employment or further training. Commitment to equity and student success is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in automotive technology and repair including diagnostics, maintenance and safety practices.
• General automotive industry knowledge including current tools, equipment and standards.
• Relevant certifications (such as ASE) and/or a postsecondary credential in automotive technology or related field are beneficial.
• Previous teaching or training experience in career/technical education or correctional education is preferred.
• Strong communication, classroom management, and student mentorship skills are important.
• Ability to work collaboratively with college personnel and TDCJ staff and to follow institutional policies.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach courses in automotive technology and repair.
• Prepare lesson plans and deliver classroom and hands-on instruction.
• Assess student progress and maintain attendance, grades, and competency records.
• Maintain a safe and organized instructional environment.
• Coordinate with college and TDCJ staff to support student readiness for employment or further training.
