Position Summary

The Automotive Shop & Upfit Associate is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Anew Transport's vehicle shop while performing aftermarket vehicle installations, modifications, and upfit work. This position combines general shop support with hands-on installation responsibilities, including shelving, ladder racks, brush guards, toolboxes, auxiliary lighting, running boards, and other vehicle modifications based on operational and customer needs.

The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, welding experience, and the ability to complete 12-volt automotive electrical wiring and installations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the shop.

As Anew Transport's Upfit Department continues to grow, this position provides an opportunity to develop additional technical skills and take on more advanced vehicle upfitting responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install aftermarket vehicle equipment and accessories, including shelving, ladder racks, brush guards, toolboxes, running boards, partitions, auxiliary lighting, and other upfit components.
  • Perform vehicle modifications and custom upfit work according to job requirements.
  • Read and follow manufacturer installation instructions, diagrams, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Measure, position, drill, mount, fasten, and secure equipment and accessories accurately.
  • Complete 12-volt electrical wiring for automotive accessories and upfit components.
  • Install and connect auxiliary lighting, switches, relays, fuses, wiring harnesses, and other 12V electrical components.
  • Route, secure, protect, and terminate wiring safely and professionally.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot basic 12V electrical and installation issues.
  • Perform welding and basic fabrication work as required for vehicle upfits and modifications.
  • Perform cutting, grinding, drilling, and metal preparation associated with fabrication and installation work.
  • Inspect completed installations for proper fit, function, appearance, and quality.
  • Test installed equipment and electrical components to verify proper operation.
General Shop & Operational Support
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including sweeping bays, clearing debris, disposing of packaging and scrap materials, and resetting workspaces between jobs.
  • Assist technicians by staging vehicles, preparing workspaces, and providing labor support as needed.
  • Move, lift, position, and secure parts, equipment, and materials.
  • Retrieve and deliver parts, tools, supplies, and other items needed to support shop operations.
  • Safely move and stage vehicles throughout the facility and property.
  • Maintain and organize shop tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Take initiative to maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the shop, including shared work areas.
  • Assist with inventory organization and communicate when commonly used supplies or materials need replenishment.
  • Support additional shop and operational responsibilities based on business needs.
Vehicle Preparation & Detailing
  • Perform light interior and exterior vehicle detailing.
  • Vacuum interiors and clean vehicle surfaces as needed.
  • Prepare vehicles and surfaces for equipment installation.
  • Remove packaging, protective materials, adhesive residue, and other materials following installation.
  • Maintain and organize detailing carts, products, and supplies.
  • Ensure completed vehicles are clean and presentable before leaving the shop.
Safety & Quality
  • Follow Company safety policies, procedures, and established shop practices.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment required for welding, fabrication, electrical work, and other shop activities.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other shop equipment.
  • Inspect tools and equipment and promptly report damaged or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of vehicles, equipment, coworkers, and potential hazards within the shop.
  • Complete work according to established quality standards and correct deficiencies when identified.
  • Protect customer and Company vehicles from damage while performing work.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record with the ability to safely operate and move vehicles.
  • Welding experience and ability to safely perform welding and basic fabrication work.
  • Ability to complete 12-volt automotive electrical wiring and accessory installations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of common automotive and shop tools.
  • Ability to read and follow installation instructions, diagrams, measurements, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic installation, mechanical, and electrical issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor throughout the workday.
  • Willingness to perform all responsibilities necessary to maintain an efficient, clean, and productive shop environment.
Preferred:
  • Previous experience in an automotive shop, fleet, upfitting, fabrication, or vehicle service environment.
  • Experience installing commercial vehicle equipment and aftermarket accessories.
  • Experience installing shelving, ladder racks, partitions, toolboxes, auxiliary lighting, or similar equipment.
  • Experience using a multimeter and troubleshooting automotive electrical systems.
  • Additional welding, fabrication, automotive, or electrical training or certifications.
  • Interest in continued growth within vehicle upfitting, fabrication, customization, or shop operations.

Physical Requirements

The employee may regularly be required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work in and around vehicles. The position requires repetitive use of hands and and arms and the ability to operate tools and equipment for extended periods.

The employee must be able to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and position materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The position requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors and in varying temperatures, including hot summer and cold winter conditions.

FLSA Classification
