Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an automotive technician training program or apprenticeship.
  • NJ Inspector's License is required or preferred.
  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicle makes and models.
  • GM certification or equivalent diagnostic software proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work as outlined on Repair Orders with efficiency and accuracy per dealership and manufacturer standards.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs based on customer concerns.
  • Communicate with Parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts of the job for warranty or customer request.
  • Inspect vehicle to determine additional safety or service needs.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on Repair Orders.
  • Road test vehicles when required and coordinate with test technician.
  • Keep shop area neat and comply with safety regulations.

Salary Range: $70,000.00 To $110,000.00 Annually

Job Description

As an Automotive Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of vehicles. Your primary objective will be to diagnose, repair, and maintain automotive systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. You will work closely with customers and team members to provide accurate assessments and effective solutions that meet dealership and manufacturer standards. This role demands a strong commitment to quality workmanship, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. Ultimately, your expertise will contribute to vehicle performance, customer satisfaction and the overall success of the automotive service operation.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform work as outlined on Repair Orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and manufacturer standards
  • Diagnose cause of most malfunctions and perform repairs based on customer concern
  • Communicate with Parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Communicate with Service Advisors immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Document all work performed and recommended on Repair Orders
  • Determine proper labor times/quotes based on industry standards or repair manual labor times
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, school, and events
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
  • Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure that customers' cars are kept clean. Notify service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Keep shop area neat and clean
  • Maintain and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keeps abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management
  • Be punctual and a positive team player
  • Other tasks as assigned
